Garth really wishes this weren’t the case. In the process of a month, he’s been forced to flee from his home country, immigrate into Hain, unwillingly made into a Jaunten, learned he’s an Earth Mage from the legends, been given a horse familiar, and oh yeah, his coming was foretold by prophecy.
All of that’s overwhelming enough, but now he’s got magic no one knows how to train, a sentient colt with separation anxiety, and lives in a culture that’s not his own.
But magic is on the rise and more awakened magicians start fleeing from Chahir with tales of worsening prosecution. As the first Earth Mage in centuries, he soon learns the weight of his new reality. He’s a beacon of hope, and Garth wants to help protect his countrymen in any way he can. Even if it means returning to the country that wants to kill him.
